Major Duties (Job Description)

  • As a Budget Analyst, you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
  • Provide management with financial information such as: financial reports, i.e. trend analyses of rates of expenditures, comparisons of actual performance to the financial plan, and identification of variances.
  • Prepare briefings and information papers on assigned programs for Senior leaders.
  • Analyze data trends, and develop program funding requirements, and recommends financial strategies and actions for meeting program requirements.
  • Serve as a financial consultant to assigned programs on management of Contracts, and Task orders, provide analyses on the risk of these documents to command program.
  • Articulate financial information, and analysis to non-financial personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop recommendations for Program Budget Decisions (PBDs), financial policies, and appropriations language to support national defense missions.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work such as analyzing and monitoring budget execution; developing strategies and procedures for successful recurring budgetary/financial events such as: end of month status reviews and presentations, and/or fiscal year-end close-outs; and providing advice and counsel to other resource management and non-resource management officials to resolve a variety of program, funding, and allocation issues. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Concepts, Policies and Principles of Budget Decision Support Financial Management Analysis Financial Management Systems Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
